readfile()

It does not block the Node.js event loop. The rest of your code continues to execute while the file is being read. You provide a callback function that gets executed once the file reading is complete or an error occurs. By default, the content is returned in a Buffer object unless an encoding is specified, in which case it returns a string. The first argument to the callback function is an error object, which will be null if no error occurred.

The syntax is:

fs.readFile(path[, options], callback)
  • path: String, Buffer, URL, or file descriptor representing the file to be read.
  • options (Optional): An object or string that specifies the encoding or other options. The encoding can be set to 'utf8', 'ascii', etc.
  • callback: The function to call when the file has been read or an error occurs. It takes two parameters: an error object and the file content.
